My Grandmother's Knitting is a great combination of story and designs. It made me start to think about who taught me to knit. It was my Gram she was always knitting for us and what a delight it was to find the pattern for Helen & Wendy's Slippers that was very much like the ones that Gram made for us every year as our feet were always growing. This is a book that will be great to give to a new knitter to inspire them to also pass on the gift of knitting to someone in their life. July is the best time of the year to be knitting for Christmas. I have just finished a couple of Christmas stockings from Knit Christmas Stockings by Gwen Steege. These two stockings are for a wedding gift later this year. It feels so good to be a little a head of the curve.

To add to my Christmas knitting this year will be a few of the balls from 55 Christmas Balls to Knit by Arne & Carlos. These ornaments are knit from a Basic Pattern. After you have made all 55 designs let your imagination go wild!

Lexi and Ryder will be ready to roll in their new sweaters made by their Great Aunt. They are turning 4 next week and have been riding bikes since they could walk. This design came from Child's Play. I knit both at the same which made sure that they both would be done for their birthday.

Project for the Flight to TNNA

I have started my project for the flight to TNNA. Our travel time from California to Ohio is 7 hours and 35 minutes. That doesn't count the time waiting in the airport. I have picked some of the Opal handpainted sock yarn (Antonia Hand Dyes #3172) to make a simple triangle shawl and I will knit a ruffled edge. It's garter stitch so it will go fast and can still people-watch at the airport. I will report back when I am home next week.

It is always great to get a project completed. Being a knitter that has many projects going at the same time it was great to send off a new sweater to my great niece Hailey. To quote her "ohh it is so soft can I sleep with it and look, look at the big pink buttons!" This little sweater is from Top Down for Toddlers and very easy to knit.

Well the first day of spring was this weekend, even though there still may be snow on the ground. Around here the hills have turned the bright green and spring flowers are popping up everywhere. Once again Annemor Sundbo has written history and knitting together. This wonderful book is written in both Norwegian and English. Sundbo has taken not only the "rag pile" but art to reproduce historical patterns for knitting. Photos and drawing through out the book. She includes Knitting Guide to design your own garments. I love her taking images of an early sweater fashion and show it knit into a modern garment. This will be a great addition to any knitting library.

Getting Ready for Christmas

Getting ready for Christmas this week I found this picture of by great neice Hailey in the Christmas Stocking that I knit for her when she was born. Her birthday is December 15th and she will be 4 years old this year. I am knitting her a sweater that may or may not be done in time to get in the mail to her. I am using a pattern from Top down for Toddlers so when the knitting is done the project is also done as you knit all in one piece. I have also used the 9" circular KA needles to do the sleeves so they are getting done quick.

Thankful for Knitting Books

It is Thanksgiving this week and I have lots to be thankful for. But I wanted to write about Knitting Books I am thankful for. I am thankful for books like Knitters Companion and Knitters Handbook. I am thankful for authors like Elizabeth Zimmerman and Barbara Walker who have been the backbone of knitting for years. And for inspiring new authors like Cat Bordhi and Nicky Epstein that make knitting fun and exciting. I am also thankful for all of our great customers who are the reason we do all of this. Happy Thanksgiving to you all and I hope you get some knitting done between the turkey and the pumpkin pie.

It's a mystery!

October is a good month to read a mystery. And a knitting or needlecraft mystery are a fun read. Monica Ferris continues her Needlecraft Mystery's with her new title Blackwork. Barbara Bretton's title Casting Spells has knitting, love and magic a great combination. Sally Goldenbaum's Death by Cashmere takes place in a knitting shop in the sleepy fishing town of Sea Harbor, Massachusetts. For the crocheters there is Dead Men Don't Crochet by Betty Hectman. And one of my personal favorites Maggie Sefton's A Deadly Yarn, were her endearing character Kelly Flynn's once again finds her in the middle of trying to unravel this tightly stitched puzzle.
